Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron

Youth Training Programme

From 2016 to 2019, Greg served as Assistant Training Manager of the High Performance Match Racing Programme at the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron in Auckland — one of the most prestigious sailing institutions in the world and home base of multiple America's Cup campaigns.

The programme developed sailors up to 23 years old in high-performance match racing, run across a 50-sailor roster with a focus on technical precision, tactical discipline, and competitive preparation at the international level. Alongside his role at RNZYS, Greg also coached at Wentworth College through the Russell Coutts Sailing Foundation — working with young sailors under the programme established by one of the sport's most decorated figures.

This experience — coaching at the intersection of elite youth development and international competition — shaped the approach Greg brings to every sailor he works with today: structured, process-driven, and focused on building the habits and decision-making that hold up under pressure.

Mater Dei / Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club

Greg joined the Mater Dei sailing program as assistant coach in 2021, taking over as head coach in 2023. What followed was one of the most consistent runs in the program's history.

Over four years the team finished second or better in every regular-season fleet race — a record of consistency that speaks to the depth of preparation behind it, not just results on the day. National titles followed across fleet racing, keelboat, and singlehanded disciplines, along with four Team Race National Championship runner-up finishes.

Beyond the results, the focus was on building the program itself — developing a deep, competitive roster with the systems, team culture, and process-driven approach that produces sailors who perform when it counts.

SoCal 420 Team

The SoCal 420 Team campaign was built from scratch around a single target: the 2024 Club 420 North American Championships.

What made this project different wasn't just the result — it was the process. Greg assembled and managed a team of young sailors, structured a full campaign around the event, and ran the kind of preparation typically reserved for professional programs: weather strategy briefings, video review, pre-regatta training, and deliberate focus on the decision-making skills that separate good sailors from great ones.

The team delivered. For the full story of how the campaign came together, check out our team highlight here.
